How do you know if the pain is just old age or that something is wrong?
I’ve lost count of how many people have told me their pains are due to “old age”.
Whilst a 20 year old, a 40 year old and an 80 year old all look a bit different on the inside, age is rarely the sole culprit for pain.
Our muscles have heaps of nerve endings in them. Ironically their behaviour can cause more pain than most arthritis problems.
The best way to really know if your pain is old age or something else is to see a skilled physiotherapist.
Your GP, whilst really knowledgeable on many things, knowing every muscle and how they function isn’t something they are routinely taught. Instead they get most of their training in reading scans and looking for the big sinister nasties (like cancer and infection).
Orthopaedic surgeons again don’t get the same level of training in how the muscles work and function as a physiotherapist. And you never want to have surgery unnecessarily when the real source of the pain was the muscles and their behaviour.
At Elite Physiotherapy all our therapists have had extensive training in interpreting your scans, assessing your bones, ligaments, tendons, cartilage and muscles and then piecing all this information together with the background story to uncover the true driving force behind your pain.
It’s honestly the easiest way to know for sure whether your pain is old age or whether it is something else. Then once you have all the information you can make the best decision for you moving forwards.
